Japan Decides To Discharge Nuclear Sewage
The Japanese government held a relevant cabinet meeting this morning (April 13) and officially decided to discharge the nuclear waste water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which is harmful to the marine environment.
According to China news network, as groundwater and rainwater continue to flow into the buildings of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which has been destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami, local water contaminated by high concentrations of radioactive materials continues to be produced. After purification of nuclear sewage by special equipment "multi nuclide removal equipment" (ALPS), the treated water produced by TEPCO is increasing. Treated water has been kept in many tanks. However, these treated waters contain radioactive material tritium, which cannot be fully eliminated by current technology.
Tokyo Electric Power has prepared about 1000 water storage tanks, 90% of which are now full, and stored more than 1.2 million tons of treated sewage. The total capacity of all water storage facilities is about 1.37 million tons, which is expected to reach the limit by autumn 2022. Japan Economic News reported that although there is a large area of open space in the nuclear power plant, the authorities plan to use it as a waste dump, but also to keep nuclear residue and nuclear fuel. There is no plan for extra open space to build new water storage tanks, and the water storage tanks need to be removed.
"If the storage tank is here all the time, it will cause risks to the waste boiler work in the future." on February 9, the propaganda director of the first waste boiler promotion enterprise of Tokyo Electric Power Fukushima looked up at the huge storage tank and sighed.
On April 12, according to NHK News quoted by CCTV news, Japanese Prime Minister Kan Yiwei said on the same day that solving the problem of increasing nuclear sewage in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant of Tokyo Electric Power Company has become a "can not be delayed" topic. In order to make Japan understand the safety issues at home and abroad, the Japanese government will explain it from a scientific point of view.
South Korean media pointed out that if Japan's nuclear sewage goes into the sea, the polluted sea water will reach Jeju Island in 220 days and the west coast of South Korea in 400 days.
The German Antarctic Ocean agency has warned that if Japan discharges all the wastewater into the sea, the entire Pacific Ocean will face a high radiation threat in less than half a year, including the United States, which is far away from the other end of the ocean.
At that time, not only the coastal residents will be directly injured, but also the marine environment and organisms will be polluted, eventually causing secondary harm to the human body.
