World’s Largest Floating Offshore Wind Farm Starts Power Supply Off Norway

The world's largest floating offshore wind project, located off the Norwegian coast, has officially connected to the national grid and begun stable power delivery this month. The wind farm hosts 14 giant turbines with a combined capacity of 88 megawatts. Unlike fixed-bottom wind farms built in shallow coastal waters, floating turbines can be deployed in deep ocean areas where wind speeds are stronger and more consistent.

Experts point out that floating offshore wind unlocks huge untapped ocean wind resources. Many coastal nations, including the UK, France and Japan, are speeding up similar pilot schemes. Though its construction cost remains higher than traditional offshore wind, scaling up production and optimized mooring technology are quickly bringing expenses down. Analysts forecast that floating wind will become one of the fastest-growing clean energy sectors over the next decade, helping island and coastal nations cut reliance on imported fossil fuels.
