SpaceX Teams Up With Nvidia To Build Space‑Based Global AI Computing Network
SpaceX has officially launched its artificial‑intelligence business and sealed an exclusive partnership with chip giant Nvidia to construct the world's first space‑ground integrated computing network, according to overseas tech reports.
Thousands of low‑orbit Starlink satellites will be fitted with brand‑new Nvidia processors. These orbital spacecraft will work as distributed computing nodes. Apart from satellite‑based internet transmission, they will handle large‑scale AI training, cloud inference and massive‑data computation around the globe, getting rid of the limits of land‑based data centres.
SpaceX also announced major upgrades to its trillion‑parameter Grok large‑language‑model series. Supported by low‑latency satellite transmission, the upgraded models will deliver intelligent AI services for ocean‑going ships, offshore wind farms, remote mines and locations unreachable by land‑based internet infrastructure.
Industry analysts point out that the worldwide AI sector is suffering from long‑lasting computing‑resource shortages. Tech giants keep building ground‑based data centres with rising costs for land, power and heat dissipation. Orbital computing resources can ease the heavy burden. Remote sea zones, isolated islands and polar regions will gain easy access to space‑borne computing power without lengthy submarine cables and land stations.
Nvidia's officials stated that the firm aims to explore outer‑space computing markets amid fierce competition on the ground. Custom‑built HBM‑4 high‑speed memory chips will be supplied for Starlink satellites to adapt to harsh space environments including strong cosmic radiation and sharp temperature shifts.
